After a lot of searching I settled on a home server – TranquilPC Harmony T7. It comes with 64 bit ready Dual Core Intel Atom D510 (2 x 1.66GHz) which does not require a fan and in Satin Black it looks smart.

It comes pre-installed with

  • Windows Home Server (WHS) PP1, 2 and 3
  • AVA Media CD ripping engine
  • iTunes Server
  • Logitech Server

I plan on using both the iTunes Server and the Slimdevices Logitech server.

Another requirement was to connect our Multi Function Canon printer to it so it can be used as a print server – any computer on the network can then print.

It’s my first time playing with WHS and Microsoft MVP Philip Churchill WHS site seems a good resource.

Using the TranquilPC WHS connect/start up cd I add a user, same name and password

Cannot find where is the remote desktop connection shortcut? No worries.
Just click ’start’ -> ‘Run…’ -> type ‘mstsc‘ in and click OK-> then you have it – remote desktop connection.

from homeserverhacks.com/ I learn that the Firefly Media Server project (see screenshot) is actually the itunes server. So both the “pre-installed” iTunes and Slimdevices servers need to be installed from the Settings | Add-ins | Available tab.
